When choosing a hotel today air conditioning is usually an important factor, especially for hotels that are situated where the sun is frequently shining. The summer of 2015 was very hot at the French Riviera. This was also true for Saint-Raphael. The days were hot but the closeness to the refreshing Mediterranean made the days pleasant. Unfortunately, the nights were hot too. Also there are signs that the summers will remain hot in the future. Therefore, we hope and believe that our guests will appreciate our investment in air conditioning both for the hotel and for the studios. Of course the temperature and the speed of the fan is possible to adjust individually in each room.

Finally the new gourmet restaurant “Archange” (Archangel Raphael) has earned its highly desired one star in the Michelin Guide. Or rather it is the chef Stéphane Léger who has achieved the star. Stéphane Léger, originally from Besacon, earned his first Michelin star already at the end of the nineties. Archange is located in the old harbor with a fantastic view over the Mediterranean Sea. In the same building you find the less formal restaurant, Le Lamparo, a French Brasserie.

In September we had the pleasure of having Mykhailo Demtsiu from Ukraine staying with us. Mykhailo is educated in Lviv Art School and has the status of Ukraine’s national artist. During an intensive week Mykhailo painted a number of colorful and unique paintings in both oil and watercolor. The inspiration was obvious. Riviera’s special light, Mediterranean color shifts, Hotel du Soleil’s beautiful Belle Epoque building, everything created conditions for new masterpieces. In the photo you can see Mykhailo with his “promotor” Katrin Gerz from Germany.

We are pleased to note that the local paper of Saint-Rapahel, Var-Matin, has written an article about the production of ceramics at Hotel du Soleil. Also our guests appreciate the figurines, pottery and decorations made of clay. The French Riviera is a fantastic source for inspiration for any artist………

Between 16th and 20th of October 6 motivated ladies plunged themselves into the exciting world of ceramics. The very professional teacher Sussi Henriksson from Finland showed different techniques how to master the clay. Wonderful pieces were made. The small but well equipped atelier at Hotel du Soleil had all the tools, clays, glazes and kiln that were needed. The weather was superb and all work could be done outdoor. The course also included a visit to Vallauris, the capital of French pottery, where the group acquainted themselves to museums, shops and galleries. A lot of fun, creativity, thoughtfulness, insights and a huge amount of handicraft was shown during the 5 day course.
